Valentine’s Day is the day of love, where you can share a little romance with your other half and remind them of why they’re so special. One way to do this is to prepare a romantic, candle-lit dinner. Here are a few ideas:
Why not prepare a meal you had on your first date, or your lover’s favorite dish? Another choice is to prepare food traditionally associated with romance, in which case you can’t go past Italian cuisine. From lasagna and cannelloni to tiramisu, cannolis and everything in between, Italian cuisine truly is scrumptious.
To make lasagna you will need lasagna noodles, marinara sauce (home-made or store-bought), a small tub of ricotta cheese, mozzarella, Parmesan cheese, minced beef and perhaps spinach depending on your tastes. You soften the noodles and then create layers out of the noodles, sauce, cheeses, mince and spinach. Then you bake the dish at 350 degrees for thirty minutes, or until the cheese is golden brown on top. Make sure to prime the dish with sauce first and cover the noodles completely with sauce to avoid dry noodles.
Another great dish to serve is cannolis for dessert. You can actually buy cannoli shells in the store or create your own. You will also have a choice in filling for the cannoli. A traditional Sicilian cannoli includes ricotta, goat cheese, sugar, orange peel, and pistachios. Other options include vanilla or chocolate custard, or ricotta cheese mixed with coffee liqueur. The choice will be up to you to find a great recipe that fits you tastes.
Valentines should be about the love you share with the special person in your life; making a meal you both enjoy is important, but not as important as cherishing the romantic times you spend together.
